What is the Camdenton Area Chamber of Commerce?
Key Activities The Chamber promotes business development through educational programs, referrals, a products and services show, and networking. A special committee of the Board is working on expanding the economic diversity within the community by attracting new business to the area. LEADERSHIP Camden County is an educational program to train community leaders for the future growth of the Camden County Area. Businesses within the tourist sector work closely together to promote the Lake of the Ozarks area in general and the “quieter waters” of the Lake of the Ozarks in particular. The Chamber maintains an 800 number as an important service to visitors. The quality of life and pride in the community have been enhanced by activities such as the Dogwood Festival, Christmas on the Square, beautification projects, shoreline clean up, and fish habitat improvement. Governance A Board of Directors is the policy-making body of the Chamber of Commerce. The Board consists of fifteen directors elected by the membership. To insure continuity, five directors are elected each year for a three year term. The Board elects its officers on an annual basis. A committee system is the most effective means of harnessing energies and abilities of volunteer workers. Committees are appointed by the President of the Board to deal with major activities or areas of concern. In addition, ad hoc committees or task forces are appointed as needed. How the Chamber is Financed The Chamber is financed primarily by the Investment of its members and by special projects, such as the annual Products and Services Show. Many of the programs that benefit a specific segment of the community are self-funded. Relationship to Other Organizations The Camdenton Chamber of Commerce is a member of the Lake of the Ozarks Transportation Council; Lake of the Ozarks Regional Economic Development Council; Missouri Economic Development Council; Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Missouri Chamber Federation; and US Chamber of Commerce. Close ties are maintained with other chambers in the area, the Lake of the Ozarks Convention and Visitor Bureau, Lake of the Ozarks Council of Local Government, University Outreach and Extension, and the Small Business Administration. Benefits of Membership Referrals Our office is a major source for area-wide information and serves as a vital “open door” to the public.
